Program Profile

(c) Rüdiger Nehmzow/ Bergische Universität Wuppertal

Our 2 year Master Program Applied Economics taught in English prepares you for the challenges of a career in international organizations and multinational companies in the international economic arena.

In the program you will develop key competencies that are crucial for a modern economist, such as the independent evaluation and analysis of data and the derivation of policy suggestions based on a solid theoretical foundation.

The Applied Economics program offers the unique combination of theoretical, institutional and empirical analysis with a focus on the issues and topics of the  real world and the global economy.

You can choose between two future-oriented specializations:

International Economic Policy (IEP) and Empirical Analysis (EA).

Both specializations share a common methodological basis and are research oriented.

⇒ In the program you benefit from small class sizes where you study with students from all over the world. We emphasize problem-based learning under modern teaching approaches. You will work in teams to work on projects or solve a particular interntional economic policy problem or on theoretical and empirical issues.

⇒ Critical reflection, self-responsibility, and an active discourse between professors and students are all key components of the education that you will receive at our Business School.

⇒ Through our team of dedicated professors, you get access to an extensive network of leading national and international organizations and institutions. Our professor's portfolios represent a diverse range of economic topics. Their research have been published in established journals in business and economics, including Research Policy, American Economic Journal, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Health Economics, and many others.

⇒ You can integrate an optional Semester abroad at one of our partner universities with top programs in Economics and Business, to further sharpen your international profile.

⇒ Study visits to major insitutions such as the European Commission/ the European Central Bank form an integral part of the International Economic Policy specialization.

⇒ Our program is the perfect starting point for human capital formation, networking and international activities - aspects critical for your future as economist/manager/policymaker.
